DKUK is a unique hair salon that also functions as an contemporary art gallery where clients sit in front of changing exhibitions. We will soon be expanding to a new unit so we are looking for a teammate who can match us in ambition; in 2017 we were selected for the L’Oreal Colour Trophy regional London final and this year we have been shortlisted for a British Hairdressing Business award. We are a gender-neutral salon and we want the experience we offer to be open to all so we have a ‘pay-what-you-can-for-your-first-cut’ offer. We work with Davines who offer sustainable beauty and the vegan haircare range Pureology. We also believe that business can be used to achieve good in society so we set aside a percentage of our profit to support our mission…

We provide fairly priced, good quality haircuts, colours and scalp treatments, which our clients receive while experiencing art. We exist to make viewing and discussing art more commonplace, and support artists by commissioning works from them and training them as hairdressers. We are growing to be among the most creative hairdressing companies in the sector.

We also share 10% of the profits of the business among the staff annually who have worked with us over three years

If this sounds like a good place to work, then believe me it is! Many of our clients are artists, creatives and lovely so we do lots of interesting haircuts and have many fascinating conversations. We are constantly challenging ourselves with workshops, extra training and photo shoots which blur the boundaries between hair and art with some of our staff also working as artists. There will also be opportunities to travel – to date we have done pop-up exhibitions internationally in Norway, The Netherlands and Brussels and nationally in Glasgow, Leeds and Barnsley. We will soon be moving to a bigger space with increased visibility and footfall and we have long terms plans to franchise the idea so one day you could open your own art gallery hair salon.

YOU
We are looking for a highly-trained technician to be part of the next big thing (cutting would be an advantage but not necessary). Must be welcoming and open minded and up for colouring and cutting without mirrors – not as uncommon as you may think, demo’s and shoots etc. and we do use them for the beginning and end of each service. If you are looking for a creative salon environment without the usual hassle then this is the place for you. Rate of pay and hours can be negotiated depending on experience and you must be competent with L’oreal professional colour system
