DKUK turns 6
It’s our birthday! Come with us on a trip down Rye lane – see some throwback photos from DKUK’s first site, and read a message from our founder, Daniel:
I can’t believe it was 6 years ago today that I arrived in Holdron’s Arcade in a taxi with a hairdressing chair, a pair of scissors and a flat pack art exhibition to set up DKUK. The original plan was to be there for one weekend – in the end it was 4.5 years at Holdron’s.
DKUK has not only survived, it has thrived. I now employ 8 staff (two of whom are Peckham born and raised). Over the past 6 years, with funding from Arts Council England, I have commissioned 39 exhibitions and in the last twelve months we have had 2853 client visits.
From a recent survey of our clients:
- 100% of surveyed clients said they would change nothing about the experience.
- 96% of clients said they would recommend us to a friend, and ¾ already had.
- 94% of people said we had improved their mood.
I’m so proud of what DKUK has become. Apparently 60% of business fail in their first 3 years, so how this funny little place has survived I’m not sure…
Oh yes. It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone that has been a part of it over the years. A huge thank to all staff old and new, and of course all our lovely loyal clients for your support and help spreading the word on our mission of haircuts in front of art. Also big thanks to Art Licks and Arts Council England. See you all soon,
Daniel
