With this in mind, DKUK in Peckham has created a safe place where everyone is welcome, listened to, and heard, and where extraordinary steps have been taken to ensure you feel completely comfortable and delighted with your hair!

We have redefined the hairdressing experience to make it more relaxing for you - an inclusive and welcoming space where you can get your hair done without having to sit in front of a mirror. Yes, that's right - we've replaced mirrors with artwork instead.

WHY NO MIRRORS?

We know many people want a haircut but don't want to worry about how they look in the mirror, especially when you're sat under harsh lighting, with wet hair. Indeed, sitting in front of a mirror for extended periods can have a negative effect on some people's mental health.

The great news is that our stylists have years of experience in cutting hair without a mirror so we know how to make sure you always leave looking your best. We will work around you, spinning the chair and carefully inspecting your hair from every angle.

Once the service is complete a mirror will be bought over where you can offer any feedback on the haircut and the stylist can make any adjustments. We like to think of this as a first draft, giving you space to contribute and collaborate with your stylist.

Some people hate going to the hairdressers because of the thought of having to make 'small talk'. Maybe you are having a difficult week and just want to enjoy your hair appointment in silence. Or maybe you have a book you’ve been struggling to read and the chance to sit in a stylist's chair is going to encourage you to finally start reading!

Whatever your reason, we will be as chatty or as quiet as you wish and none of our styling team will be offended if you say you'd rather sit quietly while we work our magic on your locks.

It's fair to say we are experts when it comes to cutting and styling long hair - and ensuring it always looks fabulous and healthy. If you feel your long hair doesn't suit you, it might just take a few tweaks to make it look great. Adding some layers without taking away from the length too much, or giving it a better shape may be all that's needed to take your hair from drab to fab.

Our curly hair specialists in Peckham are trained in cutting and styling all types of textured hair from wavy to coily. DKUK features a new art exhibition every three months which means we showcase new art to thousands of clients every year. This stimulates discussions about art which you can enjoy from the cosy seat of our hairdresser's chair.

We’re non-judgemental and happy to take your lead, whether you’re an arts professional looking for an in-depth discussion on the current exhibition, or a complete newbie looking for some insight. Or you might not want to talk about the artwork, preferring a chat about the weather or your next holiday, or to sit in complete silence – we’re happy to oblige.
