Meet The Team

DKUK is a salon with a difference, being predominately staffed by visual art graduates. Our expert stylists and colourists have all completed our in-house, extensive training program. This has created a warm atmosphere and our own unique blend of creative flair.

DKUK has been shortlisted for the L’Oréal Colour Trophy London finals and shortlisted for a British Hairdressing Business Award. For the remainder of 2019 we look forward to working on our first DKUK haircut collection, entering the L’Oréal Colour Trophy and presenting a haircut performance at Nottingham Contemporary as part of their ‘Still Undead: Popular Culture in Britain Beyond the Bauhaus’ exhibition.

Every member of our staff are fully qualified, having been trained to a high standard in all aspects of hairdressing; however, everyone has their own specialisms. This means we offer a wide range of services for every hair type. Click on each name to find out more about us and figure out your perfect match!

Daniel (He/ Them)

The DK in DKUK, Daniel trained with Toni & Guy in 1999 where he quickly rose to a senior stylist level, working on photo shoots and as a staff trainer. It was the creative side of hairdressing that led Daniel to study art. He has been able to adapt what he has learned during his training, along with many other courses from some of the industries’ leading educators. Combine this with the craft and skills honed whilst working as a visual artist for ten years and you have all the ingredients to create the classics with a creative twist.

Classic bob – Daniel never gets bored of this timeless classic. The shape is cut into wet hair, then blow dried to taste before being cut with zero tension with the head at an angle to achieve an incredibly sharp line.

Graduated bob – One of the hardest haircuts to master with no room for error! For this reason Daniel loves the challenge of this cut and the near infinite variations available.

Fringes – This simple element can often be overlooked. A well chosen fringe has the power to transform a haircut and how someone feels about themselves. Using Daniel’s extensive experience, he can advise on face shape and the best fringe to complement this.

Restyles – If you’re thinking of a big change, tap into Daniel’s 20 years of experience to get a haircut that suits your natural texture, lifestyle and face. 90 mins appointment recommended here!

Idi (She/ Her)

Idi was the first DKUK artist to train as a hairdresser. She has always had a lifelong passion for hairdressing yet decided to study art graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2017. In DKUK she found her perfect place to combine these passions. Idi is softly spoken and attentive, with many clients commenting on her gentle touch.

Curly hair – Idi has a deep understanding of curly hair. Curly hair often takes patience – working from wet to dry to see how the hair is transforming –  and Idi has bags of this. She has also studied a wide range of products to use on various hair textures.

Afro hair – Idi’s knowledge of curly hair also extends to afro hair. She has completed Michelle Thompson’s course in Birmingham and is working closely with Wendy to further her expertise.

Mullets and shag cuts – idi  loves cutting mullets and shaggy styles  because they are so gender neutral. They work on all hair types, and can bring out natural movement in even the straightest of hair. They allow for a lot of detail in face framing which is super satisfying and can be as subtle or non-subtle and disconnected as is right for the individual. Mullets tend to be more drastic whereas a shag cut feels a little like a grown out mullet. In a shag cut your hair will feel much much lighter and textured but more length is maintained throughout the whole cut.  Idi believe there is a shaggy-mullety cut out there for everyone!

Lidia (She/ Her)

Lidia was born and bred in Peckham and grew up around hairdressing in her dad’s barbershop. She cut her colour teeth at Blue Tit in Brixton, where she was head colour technician, before developing a great understanding of ethical and cruelty free hair products at Stunt Dolly in Dalston. Along with Idi, Daniel and Jasmine, Lidia is a UAL graduate, where she completed the Makeup and Prosthetics course at the London College of Fashion.

Balayage – Requiring good freehand painting, where better to get your balayage than at a salon housed by artists? Lidia loves the individual approach and is a dab hand at complementing existing natural tones, making it a unique job with endless possibilities and depth of tone.

Long hair specialist – Drawing on her creative training, Lidia is a master of updos and all long hair services, from classic bun or braided style to the full works for an extra special occasion.

Creative colour – This is where Lidia’s feel for colour hues really shines, be it with bold and bright transformations or softer pastel tones.

Highlights – Sometimes having a bad reputation for looking too harshly unnatural, in Lidia’s eyes this is a misconception, as a really nicely done set of modern highlights lifts and brightens more than just your hair.

Paula (She/ Her)

Paula is from Pamplona in Spain, where she completed Vidal Sassoon training before moving to London 3 years ago, working in salons around Forest Hill and Peckham. She has a love for creative hairdressing, fashion and design, and we’re delighted to have her experience and training at DKUK.

Blowdrys – if you would like a big, bouncy finish, Paula is the stylist for you! She is a wonder with the curling tongs and the round brush, whether it’s volume and soft curls or longer beachy waves you’re after, Paula is happy to oblige.

Bobs – it’s all about the precision! With her Vidal Sassoon training, Paula cuts an exceptional bob. She’ll study your face shape to get the length just right, and it will be perfectly tailored to your hair, lifestyle and styling routine.

Short hair –  be it a soft pixie cut or smooth skin fade, Paula relishes the challenge of getting the right short haircut for you. Short hair is much easier to style but does require more frequent cuts to keep it looking its best. Face shape and hair texture is very important here, so relax in the knowledge that you’re in safe hands with Paula.

Wendy (she/ her)

With 25 years of experience across various London salons, Wendy has truly mastered the transforming power of a good cut, colour or new style. Her experience has covered photo shoots, editorial styling in various magazines including ‘Black Beauty and Hair’, ‘Hairdresser’s Journal’ and hair competitions showcasing her styling skills on stage. Wendy has also studied Trichology, the scientific study and practice concerned with hair and scalp, making her an expert at helping hair look beautiful, healthy and thriving, which is a passion of hers. She also holds a teaching qualification that enables her to pass on her knowledge to the next generation of stylists coming up.

Extensions –  The wonder of extensions is that they can transform someone’s entire look in just a couple of hours. The addition of human hair through braiding and weaving gives the freedom to create any length, colour and texture, letting your add creativity into every style.

Precision cutting – Short hair cuts or pixie cuts that require precision is one of Wendy’s passions, switching between the razor and scissors. The multiple tools enable her to get creative with the razor adding sharpness, movement and texture, particularly on undercuts and sides and her scissor skills help shape the hair’s body by chipping and slicing.

Natural Hair styling – Twists, braids, bantu knots, you name it – all the styling methods needed to create bounce, curl and texture on Afro hair are a strength of Wendy’s. She loves the texture of natural Afro hair, especially knowing it has the ability to be so many things with these style elements.

Jasmine (She/ Her)

Jasmine joined DKUK in late July 2019 and trained with us. Since then, she is now our newest Senior Colour Technician. As a Fine Art graduate (Chelsea College of Arts), she is following in Idi, Lidia and Daniel’s footsteps as our third artist being retrained as a hairdresser. We couldn’t dream of a better fit as she comes equipped with a long-standing love for hairdressing and an arts practice concerned with female identity and popular culture.

Jasmine is trained in Indian head massage, using techniques that reduce stress, promote good sleep patterns and improve your wellbeing. This ancient therapeutic practice has been used in India for over 2,000 years and focuses on acupressure points along the head, neck and shoulders.

Blowdrys – Jasmine loves creating bouncy curls, or a smooth shiny style using only a brush and some heat. With a creative eye and a keen interest in hair and beauty trends, Jasmine is the stylist for you if you’re looking for a glamorous look.
